Sustainability

At Matrix Academy Trust we recognise the critical importance of sustainability in safeguarding the planet for future generations. As stewards of both education and the environment, we are committed to taking decisive actions to reduce our carbon footprint and promote eco-conscious practices across all our operations. Our goal is ambitious yet achievable: to achieve net zero emissions by 2035.

While we are proud of our current initiatives, we recognise that the journey towards sustainability is ongoing and requires relentless commitment and innovation. Through collaborative efforts with our staff, students, parents, and local communities, we are confident that we can achieve our ambitious sustainability goals and leave a positive legacy for generations to come.

Join us as we pave the way towards a greener, more sustainable future at Matrix Academy Trust. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in preserving our planet for future generations.

You can see our current initiatives below.

We have implemented a comprehensive recycling programme across all Trust facilities, facilitated through strategic waste management contracts. By efficiently sorting and recycling our waste, we are reducing landfill contributions and conserving valuable resources.

In a significant move towards sustainability, we are converting school kitchens from gas to electric-powered systems. This transition not only reduces our reliance on fossil fuels but also aligns with our commitment to cleaner energy sources.

Complementing our kitchen conversions, we are also transitioning food rooms from gas to electric. This holistic approach ensures that our entire food preparation process is environmentally friendly and energy-efficient.

Recognising the impact of building infrastructure on energy consumption, we are investing in new heating systems and windows on selected sites. These upgrades enhance energy efficiency, reduce heat loss, and contribute to overall environmental sustainability.

As part of our commitment to sustainable transportation solutions, we have installed Electric Vehicle (EV) chargers at Dame Elizabeth Cadbury School. This initiative encourages the adoption of electric vehicles and supports a greener commuting infrastructure.

Leveraging sustainability grants, we are implementing LED lighting solutions across all Trust facilities. LED lighting not only consumes less energy but also has a longer lifespan, significantly reducing maintenance requirements and environmental impact.

To guide our sustainability efforts and ensure continuous improvement, we are in the process of developing a comprehensive Trust Wide Sustainability Plan. This plan will outline specific targets, initiatives, and milestones towards achieving our net zero emissions goal by 2035.
