#Innovation Without Exception. This was our key theme for this year’s Matrix Academy Trust Day, we had an amazing time celebrating with our dedicated staff. We had the pleasure of hearing from some inspirational speakers sharing their stories and reminding us of why we work in education. Thank you to everyone who attended and embraced the event, it was a pleasure, and we cannot wait for next year.
The opening address for Lynsey Draycott (CEO) of Matrix Academy Trust shared this year’s theme of Innovation and a look back of the successes of a year of collaborating across our schools and improving our system and processes. “The theme of last year was all about collaboration. I have been overwhelmed at how this was received and taken forward. As a body of staff, you have supported each other across our Trust to achieve our vision and I couldn’t be prouder.”
We had the absolute pleasure of hearing from Musharaf Asgar better known as Mushy, featured on the Emmy award winning series Educating Yorkshire. He now lives life as a motivational speaker and a journalist. He told his inspiring story and showcased the transformative power of dedicated educators and how they navigated him to overcome the struggles he faced in life. You thoroughly deserved your standing ovation; it was a privilege to have you attend our event.
Born at a very difficult period in South Africa’s history, Chris Lubbe made a decision early in his life to become an activist and to oppose the racially based system of apartheid. After Nelson Mandela’s release in 1990 and the fall of apartheid, Chris worked with Nelson Mandela until his retirement as a bodyguard. He also got involved in the delicate negotiations with the apartheid regime resulting in subsequent agreement and the drafting of the new constitution.
Ricky Locke is an award-winning Magician of The MAGIC CIRCLE, CEO of the Confident Club and host of the Unlocked podcast. Thank you to Ricky for joining us at our Matrix Day 2023 and giving an inspiring keynote about using simple tools to UNLOCK the best version of ourselves to achieve extraordinary things.
Before the summer term ended, we asked staff to put themselves forward for a creative collaboration project. This collaboration was showcased at our event at the beginning of December. We had our very first performance from our Matrix staff band ‘Enter the Matrix’. A huge thank you to all the staff involved, what an amazing way to close our second Matrix Academy Trust Day, you had everyone out of their seats and reminded us of one of our key values of Collaboration.
