On Thursday 11th July 2024 we had the pleasure of joining Sir Mark at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court where Sara has the opportunity to have a tour to find the perfect location to get her winning photograph. You can see some photos from the event below.
‘I am grateful that I had the pleasure of meeting Sir Mark at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court. During my visit Sir Mark showed me around the different law courts and taught me information about them. I then had the amazing opportunity and felt privileged to take a photograph of Sir Mark for his portrait which will be displayed in the court. I hope people enjoy viewing it as much as I enjoyed taking it.’ – Sara
About the Competition
In January of this year, we launched our photography competition. The winner of this competition will have the honour of taking the portrait of our chair of trustees Sir Mark Aspinall. Sir Mark has been invited to have his photograph taken to be placed in the Victoria Law Court in Birmingham.
As Senior Magistrate, Sir Mark is the Chair of the Bench for Birmingham & Solihull. He has over 20 years’ experience in law across banking, financial, media, NHS, Government and the FTSE corporate sector and is currently a judge, as well as a governor of a local authority primary school.
Sir Mark’s portrait will be hanging in Victoria Law Court’s corridor forever, so the winner of this competition will play a part in the history of Birmingham. The oldest image currently hanging in the court currently is over 180 years old!
We were overwhelmed with the number of submissions we received for the competition with nearly 100 photographs to go through. Our top four submissions, including the winning portrait, can be found below. A huge thank you and congratulations to everyone who got involved with the competition and to our winner. We will put out an update once the photograph has been taken and is hanging proudly in the court.
